Most dangerous personality disorder which can ruin a family & make other's life nothing but he'll. The word NARCISSISM came from a classical myth of a young man , Narcissus, who fell in love with his reflection in a pond. Because he could never grasp his own image, he despaired & died of anguish. Several clinical factors play important role in Narcissistic Personality Disorder, an extreme sense of self importance & expectation of special favours, a need for constant attention, fragile self esteem, lack of empathy or caring for others.
People with such personality disorder are often preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, brilliance, power, beauty & ideal love relationships. They may think of their problems as unique & feel that only other equally special people are able to understand them. As with other personality disorders, all clinical features don't have to be present for the classification to be used.
Rather, the characteristics in the table can be viewed as a prototype or composite of narcissistic disorder. A person having at least five of nine features shown in the picture might be considered to have a narcissistic personality disorder. The category of this disorder was introduced into DSM because mental health professionals were seeing a significant increase in cases in which the problem seemed to be excessive self concern and an inflated sense of self importance & uniqueness.
In addition, in recent years, several psychoanalysts have focused on personal development in early years of life, the development of the self as a separate entity & narcissism as an aspect of self development. Relatively little research has been done so far on classification of narcissistic personality disorder. There may be some reasons like some of characteristics are similar to mood disorder, some have similarity with stress or anxiety and some other ways to deal with so called domestic violence.
