The cognitive perspective seeks to understand how dysfunctional & irrotational thought patterns create emotional problems. The pic attached lists some of the cognitive errors, therapists seek to correct. Clinicians who take the cognitive perspective analyze distress & maladaptive behavior in terms of what we tell ourselves about situations rather than the external situations themselves. The social cognitive approach developed originally as a part of the psychology of learning, and came about because a number of psychologists, interested in the learning process felt that the field needed broadening beyond the influences of conditioning & reinforcement to include important social influences. As a result, they developed a social learning approach within the psychology of learning, in which much learning was thought ro occur through observation of others' behavior.
